General Manager - Royal Ottawa Golf Club - Closed < Back
The Royal Ottawa Golf Club (ROGC) is one of the oldest establishments of its kind in Canada. Its roots in the game of golf and the history of this community run deep. Founded in 1891, the Club received the prestigious Royal designation in 1912, and its sense of community has long played a valuable role in the lives of its members. Private yet welcoming, our Club is a special place where membership is a privilege extended to ladies and gentlemen who have pride in our Club and show respect for it and each other. The fostering of friendships, social activity and friendly competition is an integral part of our Club membership. The traditional and classic design of our clubhouse is a welcomed setting for our noteworthy food, beverage and social ambiance. The ROGC is currently seeking an exceptional individual to assume the role of General Manager.

The General Manager (GM) has full responsibility for all aspects of operations at the Club, effectively managing all resources and reporting to the Board of Directors and the President. The GM will lead the management team, be representative of modern leadership practices and will promote a positive service culture in all aspects of operations. S/he will be expected to be a very interactive 'partner' with the Board and will participate in setting the strategic direction for the long term well being of the Club and its membership. S/he will also possess the ability to comfortably straddle the often-competing solitudes of the ‘traditions of the past’ with the ‘club of the future’, and all that entails. The ROGC wants a pro-active leader and developer of the team, ensuring that appropriate standards of operation are in place and consistently executed.

Highly visible and interactive, the successful new GM will be a professional in personal style, demeanor and presence, who is comfortable interacting with all members, staff and other constituents who contribute to the success of the Club. The candidate will possess the proven experience and ability to lead a team of friendly, engaging and passionate staff who are sincere about delivering to the Club's members an excellent "member experience" commensurate with one of the top golf clubs in Canada. A minimum of ten years of progressive management experience in a well-regarded private club or similar hospitality environment, with at least five years in the top executive role, is required. S/he must be able to demonstrate strong change management and financial literacy, proven skills relevant to success in a changing club world and possess an intuitive strength in building consensus. Experience and understanding of the game of golf would be a significant asset. Communications skills in both official languages is highly desirable.

The ROGC is strongly interested in the best candidates, regardless of where they live at present. Consequently, candidates outside the greater Ottawa area are welcome to apply. Relocation assistance will be responsibly considered for the finalist candidate.
