Director, Mental Health - Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario < Back
Dedicated to helping children and youth live their best lives, CHEO is a global leader in pediatric health care and research. Based in Ottawa, CHEO is one the province’s largest providers of child and youth mental health services, in addition to being a teaching hospital, children’s treatment centre, school and research institute, and so much more. CHEO’s Mental Health program, working collaboratively with a broad range of community partners, provides tertiary care treatment to thousands of children and youth, with a continuum of services that includes a 19-bed regional psychiatric inpatient unit; a 6-bed eating disorder inpatient unit, specialized assessment, consultation and treatment within an outpatient team, telepsychiatry consultation service, Project ECHO®, Section 23 Day Treatment, Youth Net, emergency crisis service, Urgent Care team and Centralized Intake..

Due to the upcoming retirement of the incumbent Director, we are seeking a strong insightful leader to fill the key role of Director, Mental Health

Reporting to the Vice President, Child Development and Community Services, and working closely with the Chief of Psychiatry (as co-leads of the Mental Health Program) and other members of the leadership team, the next Director of Mental Health will play a leading role as CHEO works to drive change based on evidence and patient outcomes to ensure children, youth and their families receive the best care, one young mind at a time. She/he will be instrumental in defining a clear vision, goals and strategies and putting these into operation (including the monitoring of performance and management of daily clinical and administrative operations).

Following in the footsteps of the retiring incumbent, the next Director will be an experienced community collaborator, dedicated to equitable access and treatment for patients and families; particularly First Nations, Northern children and youth, and children/youth-in-care. She/he will have an understanding of the issues facing vulnerable populations and a dedication to ensuing treatment is culturally appropriate and trauma informed. She/he will also bring an enthusiasm and understanding of continuous quality improvement and will be an experienced change leader.

We are looking for an authentic leader who can position their team for success in a dynamic and constantly changing health care environment, and someone who can capably liaise, plan and partner with Child and Youth Mental Health partners. A skilled and adept communicator who is comfortable having informed and sensitive discussions with colleagues, external partners and especially families is highly desired.

Operationally strong and capable of being a true champion, coach and mentor of the team, as well as an organizational leader, the ideal candidate will preferably have an advanced degree in a health- or business-related discipline (MHA, MBA, etc.), along with approximately 8 years of relevant experience in a management/leadership role. Knowledge of the health care delivery system is essential, and knowledge and experience with mental health care delivery is preferred.
